Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis invites high school students to participate in the Third Annual IUPUI Poetry Contest.
First through fourth place winners are eligible for significant tuition scholarships upon enrollment at IUPUI.
Winners will receive their prize and have the opportunity to read their winning entry at the Awards Ceremony. Acclaimed poet, Kelly Norman Ellis, will read her work and discuss the public and private life of poetry at the Awards Ceremony. The entry period for 2009 has closed.
All on-line entries must be received by Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. (EST) to be considered.
Mail-in submissions must be accompanied by completed entry form. Poems entered via US mail shall be typed in a 10 or 12 point font on a single sheet containing only the poem and its title. Please do NOT put your name or any other identifying information on the page containing your poem. Mail-in submissions must be postmarked by Thursday, February 5, 2009 to be considered. Judging is blind. Entry forms and poems are stored seperately and linked only by a random identification number. Students are asked to keep their name or any other identifying information out of the body of the poem. Contest manager reserves the right to re-dact any personal information that would influence the judging.
Final Selections for the 2008-2009 Contest will be made by Kelly Norman Ellis from Chicago State University. Preliminary selections will be made by the following faculty members from the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI: Karen Kovacik, Terry Kirts and Mitchell L.H. Douglas.
